"The mission of the Friends of the Southshore Senior/Community Center is to oversee the continuing operation, maintenance and funding of the Southshore Senior/Community Center for the betterment of our area senior citizens, as well as the entire Southshore Community." |
The SouthShore Center provides a wonderful place for area residents 55 and older and their families to meet, learn and be active. The vitality of the center continues to expand after nearly 10 years. The SouthShore embraces the principle that healthy and artful aging results from socialization, purposeful volunteer activities, continuing education, physical and mental activities. For many, the center serve as the principal point of access to needed services, programs and information.
Activities, services and programs include health screening, exercise classes, tax assistance, transportation and a wide range of cultural and educational opportunities from craft activities, watercolor classes, history lectures, bridge, to book discussions groups.
The SouthShore Senior/Community Center principally serves the residents of Deephaven, Tonka Bay, Greenwood, Excelsior and Shorewood. This facility was built with support from the five cities and community contributions. The Friends of the SouthShore Senior/Community Center provide fund raising events to continue the programs and maintain the building at the Center. The Friends also rent the Center to benefit operating funds. The SouthShore Center's staffing budget if funded by Senior Community Services, a United Way Agency in partnership with the five cities.

Message from the Friends Board
Welcome to our Website. We have recently redesigned it for easier navigation, so enjoy exploring it!
What do the Friends of the Southshore Center do? We make major policy decisions for the Center, do intensive fundraising (raffles, attic sale, rentals and donations) and generally try to keep Southshore a vital community resource.
Some of the Board work fulltime, others are retired … but one thing we have in common is a desire to enrich the lives of area seniors. We’re also looking for ways to prepare the Center for the upcoming Baby Boom retirement and are considering methods to make the Center more available to the community.
Thanks for the great support for your Center, I’m always amazed at the amount of effort and good I see done around here. Be proud.
Jerry Brecke, President
